HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

• Nationality: Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
• Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology or its equivalent, acquired on a Regular/Full Time basis from a recognized University/Institution in the country under the 10+2+4 pattern (10+3+3 in case of lateral entry), in the disciplines/eligible branches notified for each post.
• Candidates possessing an Engineering Degree in any discipline/branch other than those notified are not eligible to apply.
• Candidates possessing Part Time/Correspondence/E-learning/Distance Education courses are not eligible to apply. Only Full Time/Regular Courses will be considered.
• Candidates possessing a Diploma along with an Engineering Degree in the notified discipline must enter the marks of the Engineering Degree as qualifying marks in the online application.
• Candidates possessing a 5-year Integrated Degree in the notified discipline/branch of Engineering are also eligible to apply.
• Candidates currently in the Final Year/Final Semester of their Bachelor's Degree may also apply, subject to having secured the prescribed aggregate percentage up to the last semester/year at the time of applying; selection will be further subject to obtaining the minimum prescribed aggregate in the final degree, with documentary proof required at the time of Interview (tentatively scheduled for September 2026).

• Upper age limit: candidates should not be above 28 years as on 14-08-2026 for UR & EWS category.
• Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS categories applying under UR Category will be treated on par with UR criteria.
• Upper age limit relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
• Upper age limit relaxable by 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.
• Upper age limit relaxable by 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBDs), over and above relaxation admissible for SC/ST/OBC(NCL) categories.
• Upper age limit relaxable by 5 years for candidates domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir during 01-01-1980 to 31-12-1989.
• Upper age limit relaxable up to a maximum of 5 years for Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officers/Emergency Commissioned Officers/Short Service Commissioned Officers with at least 5 years of Military Service, subject to other prescribed conditions.
• Age after all applicable relaxations should not exceed 56 years for PwBDs and 55 years for other candidates.

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Reservation of Vacancies

• Reservation for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/EWS categories will be as per prevalent Government directives.
• OBC candidates belonging to Creamy Layer are not entitled to relaxation under OBC(NCL) category and must indicate their category as UR in the online application.
• The candidate's caste/community name must appear in the Central List of Other Backward Classes; a Central OBC(NCL) Certificate not older than 6 months as on 14-08-2026 must be furnished at the time of Interview, if called for.
• Reservation of vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBDs) will be distributed among all categories (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS & UR). PwBDs with not less than 40% of the identified disability shall be eligible for the benefit of reservation.
• 3 vacancies are earmarked for PwBDs under Design Trainee (all disciplines), and 2 vacancies under Management Trainee (across Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science, Metallurgy, Production, and Civil disciplines), covering identified disability categories including Hearing Impairment, Locomotor Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder (Mild), Specific Learning Disability, and Multiple Disabilities, as detailed in the official notification.

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Application Fee

• Application fee: ₹500 (inclusive of GST)
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD/Internal candidates are exempted from payment of application fee.
• Application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
• HAL will not be responsible if a candidate deposits the fee to the wrong account or makes multiple payments.
• Mode of payment: Credit Card, Internet Banking, or UPI through the SBIePAY payment gateway (for UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS categories only). Applicable convenience fee and taxes, if any, over and above the application fee will be borne by the candidate.

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

• Selection comprises an Online Computer Based Selection Test (All-India basis) followed by a Personal Interview at Bengaluru.
• The test will be of 2.5 hours duration, comprising Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) in three parts: Part I - 20 MCQs on General Awareness; Part II - 40 MCQs on English & Reasoning; Part III - 100 MCQs on the concerned discipline.
• The test can be taken in Hindi or English, as per the candidate's choice indicated at the time of applying (cannot be changed later).
• Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on Online Test marks, in the ratio of 1:5 to the number of vacancies in each discipline and category.
• The Final Merit List will be prepared with a weightage of 85% for the Online Test and 15% for the Interview.
• Candidates must secure at least 50% marks each in the Written Test and Interview to qualify for selection (relaxation for reserved categories as per rules).
• Candidates must produce an original Identity Card (Voter ID/Driving License/Aadhaar/Passport/PAN/Government or PSU-issued ID/College ID) before the Invigilator to appear for the Online Test.

3. Enter and re-enter a valid e-mail ID for OTP-based registration.
4. Fill up Eligibility Details and upload the photograph. A unique Application Number will be generated (Eligibility Details cannot be edited once submitted).
5. Fill up Personal & Qualification Details, with an "Edit" option provided before final submission.
6. SC/ST/PwBD/Internal candidates: registration is completed upon submission, and an Application Confirmation page is generated.
7. UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS candidates: will be directed to the Payment Gateway to pay the application fee of ₹500 (inclusive of GST) via Credit Card, Internet Banking, or UPI.
8. After successful payment, candidates will be redirected to the Application Confirmation Page - print and retain this for future reference.
9. Complete the process well before the last date (14-08-2026, 1400 hrs) to avoid last-minute website traffic issues. Non-payment of fee or incomplete steps will render the application incomplete and it will be rejected.
10. Note: Applying for more than one post (e.g., MT Mechanical and DT Mechanical) will lead to rejection of candidature, and any application fee paid will be forfeited.

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Placement & Emoluments

• Selected candidates will be posted at any of HAL's Production, Overhaul, or Service Divisions/Research & Design Centres/Offices, based on Company requirements.
• Training programme duration: 52 weeks, comprising theoretical and On-the-Job training at various locations.
• During training, Trainees will draw a stipend comprising Basic Pay of ₹50,000, plus Variable Dearness Allowance and Canteen Allowance. Bachelor Accommodation is also admissible during training, as per Company Rules.
• On successful completion of training, Trainees will be absorbed as Engineers in the Grade-II Scale of Pay of ₹50,000 - ₹1,60,000, with eligibility for Basic Pay, Variable Dearness Allowance, other Perks & Allowances under the Cafeteria system, Company Accommodation/HRA, Performance Related Pay, Medical Facilities, Provident Fund, Gratuity, and other superannuation benefits as per Company Rules.

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Service Agreement Bond

• Selected candidates must execute a Service Agreement Bond to serve HAL for a period of 5 years (excluding the training period).
• In case of breach of the Service Agreement (during training or after absorption as Engineer), the candidate is liable to reimburse actual training expenses (including recruitment expenses and all remuneration/expenses incurred during training), subject to a maximum of ₹15,00,000 (Rupees Fifteen Lakhs only).

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Pre-Employment Medical Standards

• Candidates provisionally selected, including PwBDs, must undergo a Pre-employment Medical Examination before joining HAL.
• Candidates must have sound health and meet the medical standards prescribed by the Company; appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. The decision of the Company's Doctor in this regard is final and binding, and no relaxation in health standards will be allowed.
• For PwBDs, suitability for appointment will be decided based on Reports of the Medical Board attached to the Special Employment Exchanges for Physically Handicapped; their appointment will remain provisional until Disability Certificate verification is completed.

HAL Design Trainee/Management Trainee Recruitment 2026 Important Instructions

• Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
• Candidates employed in Government/Semi-Government/PSU/Quasi-Government/Autonomous Bodies (including on contract basis) must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of Interview, failing which they will not be permitted to appear and will not be eligible for Travelling Allowance.
• Category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD/EWS/UR) once filled in the online application cannot be changed later, and no benefit of another category will be admissible subsequently.
• Candidates under reserved categories must submit Caste/Income & Asset/Disability Certificate in the prescribed Central Government format at the time of Interview (tentatively scheduled during September 2026 at Bengaluru).
• Appointment of selected candidates is subject to verification of Caste/Income & Asset/Disability Certificate and Character & Antecedents from concerned authorities.
