HPPSC Medical Officer Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

Paper-I: Screening Test (CBT or Offline)

Subject Marks
General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh 30
General Knowledge of National and International Affairs 30
Knowledge of Hindi Language 20
Knowledge of English Language 20
Total 100

Duration: 1 hour. Objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), with negative marking. No candidate securing zero or negative marks in Paper-I forms part of the merit list.

Paper-II: Subject Aptitude Test (SAT)

Type Duration Marks
Descriptive, syllabus as decided by the Commission 3 hours 120

Both papers are conducted on the same day, in morning and evening sessions. Based on merit in Paper-I, answer sheets of Paper-II are evaluated for a limited number of candidates (20 times the vacancies advertised for up to 25 posts; 500 + 5 additional sheets per subsequent post for 26 and above).

Negative Marking Rules

  • 0.25 marks (1/4th) deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Multiple answers to a question are treated as wrong, with the same 0.25-mark penalty.
  • An unanswered/blank question also attracts the same 0.25-mark penalty — candidates must mark option 'E' if they do not wish to attempt a question, to avoid this penalty.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Stage General Category Reserved Categories
Subject Aptitude Test (SAT) 45% 40%
Personality Test (out of 30 marks) 40% (12 marks) 30% (9 marks)

Personality Test

Carries 30 marks and is held only at the Commission's office in Shimla. Final ranking/selection is determined by the sum of SAT marks (120) and Personality Test marks (30). Normally, 4 eligible candidates per single post and 3 per subsequent post are called for the Personality Test based on CBT/Offline Test merit, subject to a category-wise zone-of-consideration ratio (1:5+3 for up to 10 posts; 1:5 for 11 posts and above).

Where the ratio between eligible candidates and advertised posts is 6 or below, all eligible candidates are called directly for the Personality Test. Re-checking/re-evaluation of the written examination is not allowed under any circumstances.
